The HIPPO project is a feasibility study of a local, small-scale model for the production, distribution and supply of Pure Plant Oil as an alternative fuel for road-vehicles.
Over the course of three years, 300 vehicles will be modified to run on Pure Plant Oil (PPO), in this case rapeseed oil. A 'Centre of Excellence' will be established which will act as a source of reference. Installation and training manuals will be produced and technical support offered. This will enable other modification facilities to be established along the same lines.
The feasibility of forecourt sales of PPO will be also investigated.
This local production-distribution ‘microcosm’ will act as a model that could be replicated elsewhere in the world. The lessons learnt during the project will be used to produce a ‘best-practice' handbook detailing the models and techniques developed.
